Changing lives for everyone through research and campaigns

Citizens Advice is more than an advice agency. We use evidence of our clients’ experience, stories and evidence to show organisations – including local and national government and companies – about the unfair impact of policies on people’s lives, and to campaign for positive changes in policies and services to make life better for people in our community.

By identifying where policies aren’t working or spotting emerging problems early, we can make recommendations to government, regulators and other organisations on how to fix them.

Our priorities are to...

  • Challenge discrimination
  • Alleviate poverty
  • Improve access to services
  • Uphold individual’s rights
  • Secure access to justice

Our R&C Focus Group is active throughout the year, bringing together staff, volunteers and trustees to identify issues affecting Luton residents, gather evidence, and help inform wider campaigns such as Scam Awareness and Energy Saving.

What we are doing now

Our recent research and campaigns work has included a focus on improving communication between Luton Borough Council housing officers and residents living in temporary and social housing. After hearing client experiences the Council has begun exploring different ways to help residents connect with their housing officers more effectively.
